URGENT ALERT: Do not send money for "delivery charges" to claim a free gift from ZamZam Electronics videos on TikTok or Facebook. These are scams.

A sophisticated scam is currently targeting mobile phone enthusiasts in Pakistan, leveraging the popularity of ZamZam Electronics. Scammers are manipulating authentic videos from the famous Dubai-based electronics shop to defraud unsuspecting victims.

The Scam: How It Works

The scam operates on platforms like TikTok, Facebook Reels, and YouTube Shorts. Here is the breakdown of their modus operandi:

  • Stolen Footage: Scammers take real videos of the ZamZam Electronics owner showcasing phones.
  • AI Voiceovers: They overlay a fake, AI-generated voiceover (often in Urdu/Hindi) claiming that the shop is giving away free iPhone 17s, Apple Watches, or other premium gadgets as a "promotional offer."
  • The "Free Gift" Trap: The voiceover urges viewers to contact a specific WhatsApp number to claim their prize.
  • The Catch: Once a victim contacts the number, they are asked to pay a "delivery fee," "customs duty," or "registration charge" (usually between PKR 2,000 - 5,000) to receive their free gift.
  • The Ghosting: After the money is sent, the scammer blocks the victim, and no gift is ever delivered.

Watch: Scam Examples

Here are examples of the fake videos circulating on social media. Notice the mismatched audio and "too good to be true" promises.

Visual Evidence: Spotting the Fakes

It is crucial to recognize these fraudulent videos. Here are key indicators:

1. Lip Sync Mismatch

The most obvious sign. The audio (voiceover) does not match the lip movements of the person in the video. The speaker might be pausing, but the voiceover keeps talking rapidly.

2. Suspicious WhatsApp Numbers

Official businesses usually have business accounts or landlines. These scams often use personal mobile numbers or foreign numbers that don't match the shop's location.

3. "Too Good to Be True" Offers

No legitimate business gives away thousands of dollars worth of inventory (like an iPhone 17) for free to random commenters. If it sounds too good to be true, it is.

4. Low Quality/Cropped Video

Scammers often crop the original video to hide original watermarks or text overlays, resulting in blurry or awkwardly framed footage.

Official Statement vs. Scammers

ZamZam Electronics and other reputable retailers have repeatedly issued warnings stating they do not ask for money for giveaways. Official giveaways are usually announced on their verified pages and never require a "delivery fee" transfer to a personal EasyPaisa or JazzCash account.

How to Protect Yourself

  1. Verify the Source: Always check the official verified social media handles of the business.
  2. Check the Audio: Watch closely—does the voice match the lips?
  3. Never Pay to Win: Legitimate contests do not ask winners to pay shipping or customs fees upfront via non-traceable methods.
  4. Report the Video: Use the "Report" feature on TikTok or Facebook to flag these videos as fraud/scam.

Spread the word to protect your friends and family from falling victim to these digital looters.
